Crochet Ornaments Free Pattern (How to Crochet Christmas Ornaments)

Crochet Christmas ornaments are a fun and creative way to add a personal touch to your holiday decorations. Not only are they beautiful, but they are also a great way to use up leftover yarn and try out new stitch patterns and techniques. Plus, they make thoughtful gifts for friends and family members who appreciate handmade items.

There are so many different styles of crochet Christmas ornaments that you can make, and you can also play around with color and texture to create unique and beautiful ornaments that will add charm and warmth to your home during the holiday season. Today we'll get started on the most basic crochet Christmas ornament: the simple crochet bauble. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced crocheter, making crochet Christmas ornaments is a fun and rewarding project that will get you in the holiday spirit!

To make this crochet Christmas ornament you will need:

Worsted weight yarn in your choice of colors

A clear plastic ornament bauble with a removable top

A size G crochet hook

A yarn needle

Scissors

To begin, remove the top of the ornament bauble and set it aside. You will be working directly onto the bauble itself.

Make a slip knot and chain 5 stitches. Join the chain into a circle by slipping the last stitch through the first, and then tighten to form a small circle.

Next, work 12 single crochet stitches into the circle. To do this, insert your hook into the circle, yarn over, and pull up a loop. Yarn over again and pull through both loops on the hook to complete the single crochet stitch.

Work 2 single crochet stitches into each stitch around the circle, for a total of 24 stitches. This will increase the size of the circle.

To shape the ornament, continue working in single crochet stitches, but work 3 stitches into the next stitch, then 1 stitch into the next stitch. Repeat this pattern around the circle, increasing 3 stitches and then 1 stitch until you have a total of 36 stitches. This should be slightly bigger than the widest part of the bauble.

Next, work a round of single crochet stitches without increasing. Continue to repeat this process until you reach the bottom of the ornament. Then, sc2tog (single crochet two stitches together) around until you arrive at two stitches.

To finish the ornament, fasten off the yarn and weave in the ends with a yarn needle. You can also add a decorative button or bead to the center of the ornament if desired.

To make a matching hanger for the ornament, chain 10 stitches and slip stitch into the top of the ornament to attach the chain.

Once the crochet portion of the ornament is complete, carefully place it around the clear ornament bauble and replace the top. Your crochet Christmas ornament is now complete and ready to hang on your tree! You can make a whole set of these ornaments in different colors and styles to decorate your tree.

Happy Crocheting!
