To begin, you will need a crochet hook and some yarn in the color of your choice. For this pattern, we will be using single crochet stitches.

Start by making a slip knot and then chaining 20 stitches.

Row 1: Starting in the second chain from the hook, work a single crochet stitch in each chain across. (19 stitches)

Row 2: Chain 1 and turn your work. Work a single crochet stitch in each stitch across. (19 stitches)

Rows 3-22: Repeat row 2.

Row 23: This row will create the opening for the stocking. Chain 1 and turn your work. Work a single crochet stitch in the first 8 stitches. Chain 7, then skip the next 7 stitches. Work a single crochet stitch in the last 4 stitches. (19 stitches)

Row 24: Chain 1 and turn your work. Work a single crochet stitch in the first 8 stitches. In the next 7 chains, work a single crochet stitch in the third, fourth, and fifth chains from the hook, and then work a single crochet in the last chain. Work a single crochet stitch in the last 4 stitches. (19 stitches)

Row 25: Chain 1 and turn your work. Work a single crochet stitch in each stitch across, including the chains from the previous row. (19 stitches)

Rows 26-45: Repeat row 2.

Row 46: This row will create the ribbed cuff at the top of the stocking. Chain 1 and turn your work. Single crochet in the first stitch, chain 1, skip the next stitch. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row. (10 single crochet stitches, 9 chain-1 spaces)

Row 47: Chain 1 and turn your work. Single crochet in the first chain-1 space, chain 1, skip the next stitch. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row. (10 single crochet stitches, 9 chain-1 spaces)

Rows 48-50: Repeat row 47.

Fasten off and weave in any loose ends. Your crochet stocking is now complete! I hope you enjoy - and check out the rest of The Crocheting Blog for even more patterns.
